[Meeting Report ] #181 December 2

posted Dec 2, 2017, 8:50 PM by VTMC Admin   [ updated Dec 2, 2017, 11:49 PM ]

It was as if we had been abruptly brought back to early 2000's:  Our meeting started with excercising that phenomenal workout program, "Billy's Boot Camp"!!!

Needless to say, we, 6 guests for tonight included, did it with absolutely no compromise. (First 2 photos)

While still out of breath, we immediately went on for our meeting with absolutely no compromise.

For Table Topics, a series of inspiring questions on Robots and AI met with equally thoughtful responses.

Prepared Speeches tonight offered quality and diversity, individually as well as collectively.

One of the guests, KK declared to join our club tonight.  Thank you, and our warmest welcome to you!

Our post-meeting socialization was well done as always till late.

[Meeting Report ] #179 November 4

posted Nov 6, 2017, 5:11 AM by VTMC Admin   [ updated Nov 7, 2017, 1:25 AM ]

Our meeting this time started with gambling: A shell game, where attendees were asked to guess under which one, out of the 3 cups, a Chupa Chups was hidden.  But this seemingly dubious demonstration ultimately led us to an intellectual discussion on the "Monty Hall problem", a famous probability puzzle, the answer of which was quite counter-intuitive!!! (First photo)  Unfortunately however, neither space here nor my brainpower allows any further elaboration.  Wiki it, if you are interested.

Table Topics questions were wittily posed, prompting speakers to reveal their personalities.   Four Prepared Speeches that followed were diverse in topics and in styles, constituting an impressive assortment.

We had one guest tonight, who bothered to stay with us all the way through the post-meeting socialization party.  Many thanks for your time and interest (or patience??).

Extra! Tall Tales Speech Contest at Area 52 (September 17)

posted Sep 20, 2017, 2:59 AM by VTMC Admin   [ updated Sep 20, 2017, 6:07 AM ]

At a Tall Tales Speech Contest, what you do is to present a speech on a topic that is highly exaggerated and improbable in theme or plot.  Sounds ridiculous!?

On September 17, 6 representatives from the 4 Toastmasters clubs in the neighborhood (called Area 52) met and competed fiercely.
The speakers constantly bombarded the venue with a series of wild exaggerations and crazy imaginations, leading the audience to somewhere most improbable to exist but quite intiguing to visit.

Our representatives, SK and MO, both fought furiously and performed passionately.  MO even won the thrid prize among such a select group of speakers!  Congratulations!

The fitst prize shone upon the speaker from the Campions Toastmasters Club, who electrified the entire audience with a slapstick style tale starring King of Hell (Enma Daio in Japanese). Bold and ourtageous!
She goes on for further competiton at Division E (Kanagawa and Shizuoka) scheduled for October 9.  We wish her all the best!
