We were glad to have 3 guests, one of whom declared to join our club!  Wow, new members, 2 weeks in a row!

Extra! Tall Tales Speech Contest at Area 52 (September 17)

posted Sep 20, 2017, 2:59 AM by VTMC Admin   [ updated Sep 20, 2017, 6:07 AM ]

At a Tall Tales Speech Contest, what you do is to present a speech on a topic that is highly exaggerated and improbable in theme or plot.  Sounds ridiculous!?

On September 17, 6 representatives from the 4 Toastmasters clubs in the neighborhood (called Area 52) met and competed fiercely.
The speakers constantly bombarded the venue with a series of wild exaggerations and crazy imaginations, leading the audience to somewhere most improbable to exist but quite intiguing to visit.

Our representatives, SK and MO, both fought furiously and performed passionately.  MO even won the thrid prize among such a select group of speakers!  Congratulations!

The fitst prize shone upon the speaker from the Campions Toastmasters Club, who electrified the entire audience with a slapstick style tale starring King of Hell (Enma Daio in Japanese). Bold and ourtageous!
She goes on for further competiton at Division E (Kanagawa and Shizuoka) scheduled for October 9.  We wish her all the best!

[Meeting Report ] #175 September 2

posted Sep 5, 2017, 2:13 AM by VTMC Admin

Have you heard the term "tall tale"?  According to Wikipedia, a tall tale is a story with unbelievable elements, related as if it were true and factual.
Then, on business, it has to be accused as deceit.
At Totastmasters, however, it is acclaimed!  We even have contests concentraing only on tall tales!!
As such, first half of today's meeting was booked for our in-house "tall tale" contest, where 2 club representatives were selected for further inter-club competitions. (1st photo)

The remaining half opened with the tasting of "edible tarantula (2nd photo)" by our president.
Everyone's jaw dropped, but was quickly normalized as the great prepared speeches and their evaluations took over. (Last photo)

4 guests joined us tonight.  Were the tall tales (and the tarantula) fun for you?

Downpour, incessant thunder strokes, and Obon holiday season.....   Even such a worst conceivable combination could not dampen our high spirits.
Smaller group than usual meant more chance for contribution by each attendee during the meeting.

On top, we were impressed that 3 guests managed to join us in the face of very harsh weather: 1 first time vistor and 2 Toastmasters from sister clubs.

Our post-meeting socialization party lasted till late, by which time everyone's drenched clothes were dry enough for a train ride back home.

But at this point in time, few of us knew that even a bigger excitement was about to unfold in two hours....(See the last photo.)

There was no compromise to the quality of our meeting, however.  Great preparetion, participation, and sharing.

We were delighted to have 5 guests tonight, one of whom was in his 80s!  It was an honor.
Further, one of the guests declared tonight to join our club.  A hearty welcome from the Visionaries team!
